Stroke: Chronic

Chen’s Story

“In 2005 I was struck by a brain stroke resulting from a bleeding of 5 cm. That de-commissioned  the left half of my body, left arm, hand and fingers became dysfunctional and walking was difficult, with left foot dragging. After coming out of rehab, I went for treatment and physio-therapy to Neuro- ability to build up further on what the physiotherapists at the rehab institution accomplished. At Neuro-Ability the therapists helped me overcome the mental and physical blow of the stroke, a crucial phase in the rehab.

Although  I had no illusion that everything would return to normal within a foreseeable time, just keeping afloat and trying to score some progress was the principal aim. and that was fulfilled. The struggle and therapy still continues and necessitates continuous discipline in doing Physio and exercises. Occasional setbacks do occur as this is the general way post-stroke health develops, but persisting treatment with the therapists remains essential. Interaction with therapists is a constant joint exercise of optimism and perspective.”
