Lisa’s Story

“I am 43 now and I had a very bad fall during biking in 2015. I went over my handlebars and severed my vertebral artery which goes from your brain down your spinal cord and blocked the blood flow to part of the brain, so the surgeon had to take out part of my cerebellum and lower brain stem. I was really trying to adjust to the new “me” but I realized that there were significant challenges. I had significant ataxia, I was on a ventilator and feeding tube, my balance had completely gone(I required a wheelchair), my vision in the right eye was significantly compromised (I couldn’t make tears anymore), I was deaf in the right ear and that’s just some of the challenges I had. So I was at a rehabilitation facility in BC, and I was being discharged from 24/7 care, and I knew I had to make improvements so I was recommended to inquire into Neuro Ability. I did that, and it is crazy to think of all the advancements I have made. The clinic is very friendly and accessible. The therapists are all delightful, ambitious and hands on. They work with me on specific challenges and I see regular changes. They progress their treatment based on what my body is capable of and has appropriate goals based on where I am at. They have activated muscles I wasn’t using and I am able to do so much more now. I really can’t imagine what I will be like in 1 years time. I am also impressed by the amount of mentoring and training that Cathy and Libby do with their staff. They have this IT platform where not only the therapists document their session but they also photograph aspects of the treatment so other therapists can easily follow a particular course of treatment. As such, all the therapists are on the same page and you can be treated by any therapist which is super helpful when you have a schedule that you have to work to.”
