Unique, customized classes based on yoga principles and designed to help you meet your rehab goals.
These courses are designed for individuals living with stroke, brain injury, incomplete spinal cord injury, MS, and other neurological conditions.

  • A customized Yoga-style program with personalized instruction and exercise adaptation in a fun, social, small-group setting.

What makes these courses special?
These group classes are designed specifically for individuals with neurological conditions. The classes are led by a physiotherapist with both neurological expertise and experience teaching Hatha yoga to people with various abilities. The environment is supportive and accessible. Classes cover the basics of breathing, stretching, and strengthening with a focus on yoga principles.

Who are these classes designed for?
These classes are adapted for individuals with neurological injuries (acquired brain injuries, stroke, spinal cord injuries, and other neurological conditions). We will introduce you to exercises that can help to improve your flexibility, strength, balance, and awareness of your alignment and posture. The overall goal is to improve function and quality of life. Exercises will be customized for each participant as needed.

The participants must be able to:

  • transfer independently onto either a height adjustable treatment bed ("plinth") or the floor
  • follow verbal cues and instructions for the exercises in the class (although individual attention and correction will also be given)

What do particpants have to say?

  • "Yoga had been a passion of mine until I sustained a broken hip which made it impossible to get on the floor. Thank goodness I am able to continue my yoga with Anne. My posture and my mobility are improving steadily thanks to the classes." (SS)
  • "In the yoga class at Neuro-Ability having an instructor who was also a neuro-physiotherapist was fantastic. The pace of the class was perfect and the level of difficulty tailored to our abilities. The instructors gave very clear verbal instructions, demonstrations and hands-on correction of poses. We started with very simple movements and gradually built towards yoga poses. I had the opportunity to do things which consolidated beneficial movements/exercises I had experienced in physiotherapy sessions.  After my stroke I had tried to resume 'normal' yoga classes but found the pace too fast. Most of the instructors I approached dismissed the idea of me doing yoga. Consequently I was delighted to hear about this class." (CC)
